Program Description:

The Magnetic Resonance Imaging Program at WVU's Center for Advanced Imaging is a 12- month certificate program offering comprehensive didactic & clinical education in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). Successful completion qualifies graduates as eligible to sit for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (A.R.R.T.) primary certification exam in MRI pending A.R.R.T review and approval of the applicant. The Program is sponsored by West Virginia University Hospitals and is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).

Requirements for Admission Consideration

Facilities:

The Center for Advanced Imaging is a ACR accredited,clinical and research facility located in the WVU Health Science Center. The facility is staffed by 13 technologists who provide magnetic resonance imaging services to approximately 15,000 patients per year which included studies in Neuro, Body, MSK, Breast, Cardiac, MR Angiography, Spectroscopy and Pediatric MR Imaging. The state-of-the-art facility operates 5 MRI units to include 1- General Electric 1.5T, 1 Siemens Avanto 1.5T, and 1- Siemens Verio 3T in the Health Sciences Center and 1 General Electric 1.5T Twinspeed & 1- Philips 1.0T High Field Open in the Physicians Office Center.

Enrollment:
The program enrolls 4 students per year. The deadline for completed applications is February 1st of each year. Student selection for enrollment is based upon academic qualifications, personal interview, previous healthcare and/or work experience, and the individual's projected ability to make a significant contribution to the health care profession. The program starts the 1st week of July of each year.

Tuition & Fees:
Tuition is $2,000 per semester ($4,000 for the 12 month program). Additional costs include books, uniforms, graduation fees, student health fees and certification exam fees. Students are informed of required textbook and uniform purchases upon admission to the program. Upon acceptance into the program, students are assessed a non-refundable, $50 admission fee. All tuition and fees are subject to change without notice.

Financial Aid
The program is accredited by the USDE to participate in their Student Financial Assistance Programs to include Pell Grants and the Direct Loan program. Student financial aid eligibility is determined upon admission into the program. When applying for financial aid, students should use school code 012573 on the FAFSA.

  • Official ACT or SAT exams scores
    • Minimum required scores:
      • ACT (Composite) = 19
      • SAT (Critical Reading + Math) = 900
      • ACT or SAT Writing component is not required or included.
    • Requirement may be waived for applicants possessing a baccalaureate degree.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Applicant must be a graduate (or pending graduate) from a JRCERT accredited program in Radiologic Technology.
  • Grade transcripts from all previous academic experiences to include:
    • Radiologic Technology
    • High School or GED
    • College (if applicable)
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT certification.
    • Registry eligible students are accepted into the Program on the condition that they successfully pass the ARRT examination in Radiography. Students who do not pass must withdraw from the Program and can reapply upon passing the exam.
